How is Exodus Church led?
The head of Exodus Church is Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:22). We trust Jesus. We attempt to follow Him in every area of our individual and corporate lives. No decision in our church will be made that would knowingly contradict what is found in Scripture.
We view the structure of Exodus not as top-down leadership, but as front-led leadership, with the pastor and the Directional Team serving as the “lead listeners.” They are to be “out in front” discerning the voice of Jesus as to where and how He is leading us forward. In light of this, the Directors will be intentionally accessible and responsive to the input, feedback, concerns, or criticism communicated responsibly by members of Exodus Church.
The Directors (some churches call this role “Elders”) are given ultimate responsibility and authority to see that the church remains on a solid course biblically, that its members are being shepherded, that the body is being well taught, and that the church is being competently lead with the assistance of other able and godly leaders. Our Pastor is also a member of the Directional Team and bears primary responsibility for leadership of this team.
How are Exodus church leaders selected?
In the New Testament, the founders of the church appointed the first directors (which they termed elders). Thus, it is implied that the existing spiritual leadership of the church is intimately involved in the process of selecting directors to ensure selection based on spiritual rather than superficial qualifications. The qualifications for Directors, Shepherding Team members, and pastoral staff, involve living a redeemed life, guided in part by 1 Corinthians 12:27-28, 1 Timothy 3:2-7, and Titus 1:6-9.
The spouses of Directional Team members are also an integral part of the church’s leadership. At appropriate moments, the spouses of Directional Team members may be invited to participate in Directional Team meetings as advisors and prayer partners.
